Those Pesky Fleas & Ticks

Ah, summer. The season of sunshine, warmth, and unfortunately, fleas and ticks. These pesky parasites can cause all sorts of problems for our furry friends, but luckily, there are plenty of preventative measures you can take to keep them at bay.

First and foremost, it's important to keep your pet groomed and clean. Regular baths, brushing, and grooming can help prevent fleas and ticks from taking up residence on your pet's fur. Plus, it's a great excuse for some quality bonding time with your furry friend!

Another important step in flea and tick prevention is using the right products. There are a variety of options available, from topical treatments to collars to oral medications. Talk to your veterinarian to determine the best option for your pet based on their age, size, and health. We love the oral options, my pups just think it’s another treat! Many of them are flavored to make them more palatable.

When it comes to flea and tick prevention, it's also important to treat your home and yard. Vacuuming regularly and washing your pet's bedding in hot water can help get rid of any fleas or ticks that may have made their way inside. Additionally, treating your yard with a flea and tick repellent can help keep these parasites at bay. We don’t treat our yard with pesticides but do our best to keep it maintained with regular mowing. We also allow some wildlife to live peacefully on our property which include opossums that love to dine on ticks.

Finally, it's important to stay vigilant and check your pet regularly for any signs of fleas or ticks. If you notice any itching, scratching, or other signs of discomfort, it's time to take action. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best course of treatment for your pet.

In conclusion, fleas and ticks can be a nuisance for both pets and their owners, but with the right preventative measures, they don't have to be. Keep your pet groomed, use the right products, treat your home and yard, and stay vigilant, and you'll be able to enjoy a happy, healthy summer with your furry friend.
